The Solar Energy Association of Ukraine (SEAU) invites you to take part in an open meeting of the SEAU Committee on Electricity Market Operations, to be held jointly with SEAU’s expert partner, JSC “Market Operator”.
Topic: “Designation of JSC ‘Market Operator’ as NEMO: Future Steps Towards the Integration of the European and Ukrainian Energy Markets”
The event will take place on 26 August at 11:00 in the format of a Zoom conference. The working language will be Ukrainian.
Moderator: Volodymyr Yevdokimov, Head of the SEAU Committee on Electricity Market Operations.
Speaker: Oleksandr Havva, CEO of JSC “Market Operator”.
On 18 August, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NEURC) designated JSC “Market Operator” as a Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO) for a four-year term. This decision marks an important step towards coupling Ukraine’s Day-Ahead Market (DAM) and Intraday Market (IDM) with the corresponding segments of the European electricity markets through the market coupling mechanism.
During the meeting, we will discuss the significance of JSC “Market Operator”’s new status and the next practical steps towards integrating Ukraine’s electricity market into the single European energy market.
In particular, we will discuss:
- what the designation of JSC “Market Operator” as NEMO means and what role the nominated operator will play in the process of integrating Ukraine’s DAM and IDM with the European markets;
- the next steps following the NEMO designation, including preparations for concluding a multilateral agreement between nominated electricity market operators and transmission system operators of EU Member States and/or Contracting Parties to the Energy Community;
- what the market coupling mechanism will involve—from coordinating the operations of market operators in different countries to enabling cross-border electricity trading under common rules and ensuring more efficient use of cross-border transmission capacity;
- the prospects for integrating Ukraine’s DAM into SDAC and its IDM into SIDC, and the significance of this process for the further European integration of Ukraine’s electricity market;
- the expected impact of market coupling on Ukraine’s electricity market, including competition, the liquidity of organised market segments, market-based price formation, and the development of cross-border electricity trading;
- the key organisational, technical, and operational steps required for the practical implementation of electricity market coupling between Ukraine and Europe.
The meeting will be useful for electricity market participants, renewable energy producers, traders, suppliers, investors, representatives of energy companies, developers, experts, and everyone interested in the development of Ukraine’s electricity market, European integration, and the prospects for coupling it with European energy markets.
We invite you to join the meeting to discuss, together with representatives of JSC “Market Operator”, one of the key decisions on the path towards integrating Ukraine’s electricity market into the single European energy market and to learn more about the next steps in this direction.
