The Solar Energy Association of Ukraine (SEAU) is pleased to announce the establishment of the SEAU Committee on Agrivoltaics.
The decision to establish the new Committee was approved by the SEAU Board. Oleg Prysiazhniuk has been appointed as its Head. He is the Director of the Institute of Bioenergy Crops and Sugar Beet of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences and Professor.
The establishment of the Committee marks another step by SEAU in advancing agrivoltaics in Ukraine. Today, agricultural companies are already actively using solar power plants and battery energy storage systems. However, agrivoltaics in its classical form – combining agricultural production and renewable electricity generation on the same land plot – is still at an early stage of development in Ukraine.
The Committee’s key areas of work will include:
- analysing and studying international experience in the development of agrivoltaics;
- addressing legislative and legal issues related to combining the use of agricultural land with the installation of power generation facilities and battery energy storage systems;
- bringing together expertise from the energy and agricultural sectors, as well as cooperating with researchers to develop practical agrivoltaics models;
- exploring opportunities to combine the cultivation of agricultural and bioenergy crops with photovoltaic systems;
- building an information and expert knowledge base for agricultural and energy companies, developers and other market participants;
- promoting and advancing agrivoltaics in Ukraine, including through professional events, conferences and discussions with market representatives.
SEAU is convinced that combining the expertise of the energy and agricultural sectors, scientific knowledge and international best practices will help create the necessary conditions for the development of agrivoltaics in Ukraine.
