The Executive Director of ASEU took part in a webinar on “Hydrogen Infrastructure Development in Ukraine” held by the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council.
The discussion was built around the transport sector as one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. The transition to hydrogen is the best option for the decarbonization of various modes of transport, which also opens up great opportunities for Ukraine.
In his speech, Artem Semenyshyn stressed that the critical issue is – what kind of hydrogen to use. In order to decarbonize, we should only talk about green hydrogen, which will perform several functions at once. It is an energy-intensive resource that will act as a stabilizer and storage for difficult-to-predict renewable energy sources.
Also, the director noted that an important advantage of using hydrogen is electrification. The technology of electric motors is much simpler than the internal combustion engine. To date, green hydrogen is responsible for the decarbonization of large freight traffic.
