The session was moderated by <\/span><b>Oleksandr Alyokhin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Chair of the SEAU Installers Committee, while the speaker was <\/span><b>Andrii Antonov<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Technical Director of <\/span><b>Solar Steelconstruction<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event brought together representatives of engineering companies, solar power plant developers, installers, and experts from the renewable energy sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the presentation, the speaker provided a detailed overview of the <\/span><b>operating principles of HSAT HORIZON horizontal single-axis solar trackers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, their architecture, control systems, and practical operational experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tracker systems allow <\/span><b>solar panels to adjust their tilt angle throughout the day following the sun\u2019s movement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which significantly increases electricity generation.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA solar tracker is not just a movable metal structure for mounting photovoltaic modules. It is an intelligent system operating 24\/7 that allows not only an increase in total electricity generation but also a shift of generation to hours when electricity has higher market value,\u201d said <\/span><b>Andrii Antonov<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the expert, comparisons between tracker-based and fixed-tilt structures show that the use of tracker systems can increase <\/span><b>annual electricity generation by 13-20%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, depending on site conditions and project characteristics. The most noticeable gains occur during <\/span><b>morning and evening hours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, when traditional fixed structures operate less efficiently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the meeting, particular attention was also given to the <\/span><b>economic aspects of using trackers in utility-scale solar power plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the company\u2019s estimates, additional electricity generation can generate <\/span><b>approximately \u20ac23,000 in additional annual revenue per 1 MW of installed capacity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to power plants using fixed mounting structures.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTaking the additional generation into account, a tracker system typically pays back the investment in about <\/span><b>three years of operation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. From the fourth year onward, it begins to generate additional profit for the plant owner,\u201d explained Andrii Antonov.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the speaker, the approximate cost of a tracker structure is around <\/span><b>\u20ac80,000 per 1 MW<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, although the final cost depends on <\/span><b>land characteristics, soil geology, and the configuration of the future power plant<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event also covered key <\/span><b>technical aspects of tracker system implementation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the structure and operating principle of the <\/span><b>tracker table<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>Horizon MS control and monitoring system<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tracker operation algorithms, including <\/span><b>backtracking functions to prevent shading<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">protection mechanisms against <\/span><b>wind and snow loads<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The control system allows operators to monitor tracker performance both <\/span><b>locally and remotely via a web interface<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, using data from <\/span><b>meteorological stations, sensors, and motor control units<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was also noted that the trackers can operate in a <\/span><b>wide range of climatic conditions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are adapted for deployment <\/span><b>throughout the entire territory of Ukraine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another important topic of discussion was the <\/span><b>integration of tracker systems with energy storage systems (BESS)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. According to Andrii Antonov, combining trackers with energy storage enables optimization of electricity generation according to <\/span><b>hourly price dynamics in the electricity market<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trackers generate more electricity during <\/span><b>morning and evening hours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, allowing stored energy to be used more efficiently and increasing the overall profitability of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the <\/span><b>Q&amp;A session<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, participants discussed several practical aspects of tracker deployment, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the impact of trackers on the <\/span><b>Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">installation requirements and <\/span><b>support structure geometry<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">compatibility with different types of <\/span><b>photovoltaic modules<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>backup power requirements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for control systems<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>operation and maintenance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of tracker-based solar plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the speaker, maintenance of tracker systems is relatively simple and typically includes <\/span><b>routine inspections of structural and electronic components approximately twice a year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants noted that <\/span><b>solar tracker technologies are becoming an increasingly important component of modern solar power plant development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly amid growing <\/span><b>electricity market price volatility<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The search for solutions that enhance generation efficiency and improve project economics is becoming one of the key drivers of industry development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Solar Energy Association of Ukraine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will continue organizing expert discussions and facilitating the exchange of practical experience among market participants, contributing to the deployment of <\/span><b>innovative technologies in solar power generation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Please note that recordings of all SEAU meetings and webinars are available to SEAU members upon request.
